Plus costs far more than Advanced. The lower card rate rarely pays for it alone, so the case rests on features you will actually use.

Shopify Plus is worth it when you need something the standard plans cannot do: customizing the checkout’s information, shipping and payment steps, running full wholesale (B2B) alongside retail, operating several stores for different countries or brands, or giving large teams their own logins. If you simply have growing sales, Shopify Advanced usually covers you, because the lower card rate on Plus only pays for the price difference at very high volume.
As of 2026, Shopify’s pricing page lists Advanced at $399 a month on monthly billing ($299 billed yearly) and Plus from $2,300 a month. Shopify’s Plus pricing page says $2,300 applies to standard setups on a three-year term, $2,500 a month on a one-year term, and that higher-volume businesses move to a variable platform fee based on revenue, which Shopify quotes through sales.
Figures from Shopify’s pricing and help pages, as of 2026:
Many owners assume the lower card rate will cover the higher fee. Check it. On monthly billing, Plus at $2,300 costs $1,901 more than Advanced at $399. The card rate saving is 0.25 percentage points. $1,901 divided by 0.0025 is about $760,000 a month in online card sales through Shopify Payments before the rate difference alone covers the gap. That is roughly $9 million a year.
If you use a third-party payment provider, the transaction fee saving (0.6% down to 0.2%) is larger, so the break-even comes sooner. Put your own numbers in. For most stores below several million dollars a year, the upgrade only makes sense if specific Plus features earn their keep.
These are the reasons we see businesses upgrade, in rough order of how often they matter:
Shopify’s help center states that advanced checkout customization is available only on Plus. On Plus, apps and custom extensions can add fields, upsells, delivery date pickers, loyalty points or custom validation to the information, shipping and payment steps, and the Checkout Branding API gives deeper control of the look. Standard plans can customize the thank you and order status pages and use the checkout editor. If your business depends on collecting extra information or applying special rules at checkout, this is often the deciding feature.
Standard plans now include a limited number of B2B catalogs, but Plus removes the cap. For a business with many wholesale accounts, each with its own price list, payment terms and product range, Plus lets you run retail and wholesale from one store and one inventory instead of a separate wholesale store or a stack of apps.
Plus includes up to nine expansion stores. Brands that run separate stores for different regions, currencies, languages or sub-brands get them under one agreement and can manage them together. Shopify Markets handles selling to several countries from one store, so check whether one store with Markets would do before paying for several.

Moving from a standard plan to Plus is a plan change on the same store, not a rebuild. Your products, customers, orders, theme and apps stay where they are. The work comes afterwards: turning on the Plus features you upgraded for, building checkout extensions, setting up B2B companies and price lists, inviting staff with the right permissions, and testing checkout end to end before your next busy period. Plan that work before you sign, so the first months of the contract are not spent paying for features you have not switched on yet.

Plus adds advanced checkout customization, unlimited B2B catalogs and staff accounts, up to nine expansion stores, more inventory locations and lower card and transaction fees.
Partly. All plans can use the checkout editor and customize the thank you and order status pages. Customizing the information, shipping and payment steps needs Plus.
Rarely on card rates alone. On monthly billing, the gap between Advanced and Plus is covered by the 0.25-point card rate saving only at around $760,000 a month in online card sales.
No. Shopify says Flow is a free app on Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus, though some actions and limits depend on the plan.
