Mailchimp has four marketing plans: Free, Essentials, Standard and Premium. Each paid plan’s price rises with the number of contacts in your account. As of 2026, the free plan covers up to 250 contacts and 500 sends a month, and the Standard plan starts at $20 a month, according to Mailchimp’s pricing page. Premium is built for large lists and its base price covers 10,000 contacts. Mailchimp often runs promotional discounts, so the price shown on any given day may differ; use its calculator with your real contact count.
The biggest pricing trap: Mailchimp’s help center says subscribed, unsubscribed and non-subscribed contacts all count toward your plan. Archiving them is the simplest way to avoid paying for people you cannot email.
Up to 250 contacts. 500 sends a month with a daily cap of 250. 1 user, 1 audience. No automation flows. Email support for the first 30 days.
Monthly sends up to 10 times your contact limit, for lists up to 50,000 contacts. 3 users and 3 audiences. Automation flows limited to 4 steps. Email and chat support. 14-day free trial.
Starts at $20 a month. Sends up to 12 times your contact limit, for lists up to 100,000 contacts. 5 users and 5 audiences. Up to 200 flows with branching. One onboarding session. 14-day free trial.
Sends up to 15 times your contact limit. Unlimited users and audiences. Phone and priority support, plus onboarding sessions with a specialist. Base price covers 10,000 contacts.

Add these up for a realistic annual figure rather than relying on the monthly plan price alone.
For online stores with most revenue from checkout, a store-focused platform may earn more per dollar even if it costs more. For stores on Shopify sending occasional campaigns to a big list, Shopify’s built-in email, which charges per email sent rather than per contact, can cost less. For sales-led B2B businesses, a CRM-based tool may replace both email and a separate CRM. Price the alternatives at your real list size before deciding.

The free plan costs nothing for up to 250 contacts. As of 2026, Standard starts at $20 a month, and every paid plan rises with your contact count. Use Mailchimp’s calculator for your exact number.
Yes. Its help center says unsubscribed and non-subscribed contacts count toward your plan. Archived, cleaned and deleted contacts do not.
On paid plans, sending continues and overage charges are added. On the free plan, sending is held until you reduce contacts or upgrade.
For newsletters and very short automations, yes. Its flows are limited to 4 steps, so most businesses wanting a full welcome series or abandoned cart flows choose Standard.
Mailchimp’s pricing page lists a 14-day free trial for Essentials and Standard as of 2026.
