SEO for dentists comes down to four things. First, win the local map pack, the three practices Google shows on a map for searches like “dentist near me”, with a complete and active Google Business Profile. Second, build a dedicated page for each treatment you want more of, such as implants, Invisalign, crowns or emergency visits, written for patients and reviewed by a dentist. Third, earn a steady stream of genuine reviews and reply to them without revealing anything about the patient. Fourth, meet the higher quality bar Google applies to health content by showing who wrote and reviewed your pages and keeping them accurate. Most new-patient searches are local and urgent, so these basics matter more than anything clever.
Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence, and that there is no way to pay for a better local ranking. You cannot change distance, so the work goes into the other two.
Google’s guidelines also require your business name to match your real-world name. Adding “Best Implant Dentist Miami” to the name breaks the rules and can get the profile suspended.
A single “Services” page listing twenty treatments rarely ranks for any of them. Each treatment that matters to your revenue deserves its own page that answers what a patient wants to know before calling:
Prioritize by value and demand: the treatments you want more of, the ones patients search for most in your area, and emergency care, which brings urgent, high-intent searches. Pages for the specific towns or neighborhoods you serve can help too, but only when each says something real about that area. Google’s spam policies treat near-identical city pages as doorway abuse.
Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking, and replying helps your profile stand out. Reviews also decide which practice a patient calls. Build asking into the routine: a text or email after the visit with a direct link to your Google review form. Our guide to getting more Google reviews covers the mechanics.
Two rules matter for dental practices in particular:

Google’s search quality rater guidelines treat health topics as “Your Money or Your Life” content, where inaccurate information could harm people, and hold it to a higher standard of experience, expertise and trust. In practice:
AI-written pages with no clinical review are a risk here, both for quality and for accuracy.
Most dental searches happen on phones, often by someone in pain or comparing two practices from the couch. The site needs to load fast, show the phone number and booking button at the top, and work well on a small screen. Mark up your practice details with LocalBusiness or Dentist structured data so the address, hours and phone are clear to search engines. Add a new-patient page that explains the first visit, insurance accepted, forms, parking and what to bring. It answers what first-time and nervous patients most want to know, and gives the Business Profile a useful page to link to. Our article on medical website design covers what a healthcare site needs.

Business Profile improvements can show results within weeks. New treatment pages and broader rankings usually take several months, and longer in competitive metros.
Yes, but without confirming the person is a patient or mentioning any treatment details. HHS has settled with dental practices that disclosed patient information in review replies. Respond generally and invite them to call. Confirm your approach with your compliance advisor.
Google allows public-facing practitioners to have their own profiles. Whether it helps depends on the practice, so plan practice and practitioner profiles together.
Treatment pages come first. Articles help once those exist, especially when they answer questions patients ask, such as what to do about a cracked tooth.
