Every dealership website has an inventory feed. What separates the sites that sell cars is everything around it: vehicle detail pages that load fast on a phone, local and model pages that rank for nearby searches, credit and trade-in forms that are short and secure, clear pricing and disclosures, and tracking that connects a web lead to a test drive and a sale.
Most dealer platforms look alike out of the box, so these details are where you can pull ahead of the store down the road. This guide covers each one, plus the rules that apply to finance forms and advertising. It is general information, not legal advice; confirm compliance questions with your counsel.
The vehicle detail page is one of the most important pages on a dealer site. Shoppers land on it from search, from listing sites and from ads. Make it work:
Shoppers search for a model or a service near them. Inventory pages change daily and are hard to rank, so build stable pages that do:
Credit applications collect some of the most sensitive data a business can hold. Auto dealers that extend credit, arrange financing or lease vehicles are covered by the FTC’s Safeguards Rule; the rule’s own definition of a financial institution (16 CFR 314.2) uses auto dealerships as an example. The FTC publishes FAQs to help automobile dealers comply with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and the Safeguards Rule, and says dealers that extend credit or arrange financing must tell customers what information they collect, who they share it with and how they protect it.
The Safeguards Rule requires dealers it covers to encrypt customer information on their systems and in transit, use multi-factor authentication for anyone accessing customer information, and notify the FTC no later than 30 days after discovering a breach involving at least 500 consumers’ unencrypted information. For the website, that means:
Our cybersecurity team helps businesses put controls like MFA and encryption in place. Confirm what the rule requires of your dealership with counsel.
The FTC’s guidance for dealers says that in digital ads it is important to disclose the details of a deal up front, and it points to the Consumer Leasing Act and Regulation M for lease advertising. On the website, that means the advertised price should be a price a shopper can actually get, with required fees and conditions clearly shown, and lease or finance offers should include the terms the rules require. Ask counsel to review your offer templates once, then reuse them.

Google’s vehicle ads show your inventory on Google with a photo and key details and send clicks to the vehicle’s page on your website. According to Google’s help center, as of 2026 the format is fully released in the United States; you need a vehicle data source in Merchant Center, linked to Google Ads and your Google Business Profile, and only dealers, retailers, aggregators and manufacturers can use it. That makes accurate, fast vehicle detail pages even more valuable, because every ad click lands on one.
Our Google Ads management team adjusts campaigns weekly and can help connect your feed and tracking.
Dealers often know how many leads came from the website but not how many cars those leads bought. Close the loop:
Clear answers to these tell you more about a platform than a demo of its home page.

Inventory pages change constantly, so they are hard to rank. Stable model, service and area pages, written for the towns you serve, plus a strong Google Business Profile, usually do more for local search.
